Morocco Braces for Extreme Heat Wave with Temperatures up to 49°C (120°F)

Several Moroccan regions will experience a heat wave with chergui at a red and orange alert level until Monday, August 16, 2021, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN).
Temperatures will vary between 46 and 49°C until Monday, August 16, the DMN specifies in a special weather bulletin at the red level. This heat wave will affect the provinces of Fez, Meknes, Moulay Yacoub, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Ouezzane, Taounate, Beni Mellal, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Fquih Ben Salah, Khouribga and Settat. From Saturday to Monday, temperatures ranging between 47 and 49°C are expected in the provinces of Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Inzegane-Ait Melloul and Taroudant, the same source also specifies.
As for the provinces of Oujda-Angad, Jerada, Guercif, Touarirt, Chefchaouen, El Hajeb, Sefrou, Khenifra, Taza, Boulemane, Nador, Driouch, Berkane, Larache, Kenitra, Essaouira, Safi, Berrechid, Benslimane, El Jadida, Skhirate-Temara, Rabat-Sale, Nouaceur and Mediouna, they will experience temperatures ranging between 39 and 45°C until next Monday. During the same period, the provinces of Marrakech, Chichaoua, Khemisset, Sidi Bennour, Assa-Zag, Tata and Zagora will record temperatures ranging from 45 to 48°C.
The DGM also announces that temperatures ranging from 45 to 48°C are expected, from Saturday to Monday, in the provinces of Chtouka-Ait Baha, Guelmim, Es-Smara, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, Aousserd, Sidi Ifni, Tan-Tan, Tiznit, Laayoune and Tarfaya.
