Extreme Heat Wave Grips Morocco: Temperatures to Soar Near 50°C in 28 Provinces
A heat wave is expected from Thursday to Monday in several provinces of Morocco, with temperatures that could reach 49°C, warns the General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN).
Temperatures will vary between 42 and 47°C tomorrow, Thursday, August 12, the DMN specifies in a special weather bulletin with an orange alert level. This heat wave will affect the provinces of Béni Mellal, Berkane, Boulemane, Chefchaouen, Driouch, El Hajeb, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Errachidia, Fès, Fquih Ben Saleh, Guercif, Jerada, Khénifra, Khouribga, Meknès, Moulay Yacoub, Nador, Ouezzane, Oujda-Angad, Sefrou, Settat, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Taounate, Taourirt, Tata, Taza and Zagora.
From Friday to Monday, temperatures ranging from 42 to 45°C are expected in the provinces of Aousserd, Assa-Zag, Benslimane, Berrechid, Chichaoua, Es-Semara, Essaouira, Kénitra, Khemisset, Larache, Safi, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Berkane, Boulemane, Chefchaouen, El Hajeb, Errachidia, Guercif, Jerada, Khénifra, Nador, Driouch, Ouezzane, Oujda-Angad, Sefrou, Taourirt, Taza and Zagora, the same source also specifies.
As for the provinces of Marrakech, Rehamna, Taroudant, Beni Mellal, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Fès, Fquih Ben Salah, Khouribga, Meknès, Moulay Yacoub, Settat, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Taounate and Tata, they will experience temperatures ranging from 45 to 47°C, the same source adds.
From Saturday to Monday, temperatures will range from 45°C to 49°C. This heat wave will affect the provinces of Agadir-Ida-Ou Tanane, Boujdour, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Guelmim, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Oued Ed-Dahab, Sidi Ifni, Tan-Tan and Tiznit.
A significant rise in temperatures is expected on the North Atlantic plains from Friday, the DGM adds.
