Morocco Braces for Cold Snap: Rain, Thunderstorms, and Snow in Atlas Mountains

A rainy day this Thursday in most regions of Morocco where it will also be quite cold with relatively low temperatures, according to the National Meteorology Directorate (DMN).

In Morocco, the coolness is announced after several days of heat wave. Thus, during this day, cloudy periods with rain or sometimes thunderstorms will be recorded on the Atlas, the southeast, the Oriental and the plains in the north and center of the country.

The sky will often be cloudy to overcast on the Mediterranean coast and the Rif with widespread rains and snowfall in places on the High Atlas mountains above 2,000 meters of altitude, warns the DMN.

DMN forecasts in the morning minimum temperatures of the order of 1 to 6 degrees on the Atlas reliefs, 6 to 11 degrees on the Oriental, the Rif, the phosphate deposit plateaus, Oulmès, the plains in the center of the country, the Souss and the southeastern slopes, 11 to 17 degrees on the Mediterranean coast, the Tangier region, the Saïss, the plains in the north, the southeast, the southern provinces and on the Atlantic facade.

In the afternoon, the temperatures will rise significantly to reach 30 degrees. According to the DMN, temperatures of the order of 9 to 14 degrees will be recorded on the Atlas reliefs and the Rif, 14 to 19 degrees on the Mediterranean coast, the Tangier region, the phosphate deposit plateaus and Oulmès, the plains in the center of the country, the Souss, the southeast, and near the coasts in the north and center of the country. In the Oriental, the Saïss, the Gharb, the southeast, the Souss, the coasts in the south of Morocco and the north of the southern provinces, they will be of the order of 20 to 25 degrees, and 25 to 30 degrees in the far south of the country.
