Morocco Bans Travel to 8 Cities as COVID-19 Cases Surge, PM Explains

The Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Othmani, affirmed on Tuesday in Rabat that it was necessary to ban travel to and from eight cities. Even if the decision compromises the smooth running of certain activities, it was "crucial" to limit the many cases of contamination.
The Prime Minister was speaking at the third meeting of the inter-ministerial commission responsible for monitoring and implementing the government program. He explained that "the epidemiological situation has seen a worrying evolution over the past week, in particular after the curve of virus infections began to rise more rapidly."
He also explained that this decision was difficult, given that it had to take into account both "the preservation of the health of the inhabitants of the eight cities, but also that of the population in the other regions of the Kingdom." The government is aware of the repercussions of the decision on the most vulnerable groups, but it found itself obliged to deal with the most urgent situation.
The Head of Government also stated that "the competent authorities will make more efforts in communication, listening and support." But in return, "citizens are invited to show more vigilance, patience, commitment and collaboration."
