Morocco Awaits Moon Sighting to Determine Eid Al Fitr Date

Even though astronomical calculations tend to set the date of Eid Al fitr on Saturday, April 22, 2023 in Morocco, the observation of the moon remains the preferred option for the Moroccan religious authorities for the time being.
In a statement released yesterday, the Ministry of Habous states that "the observation of the crescent moon announcing the first day of Eid Al Fitr will take place on Thursday, 29 Ramadan 1444 of the Hijri calendar. In this regard, the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs calls on judges, nadhirs and delegates of the ministry to inform the department of the observation of the crescent moon or its non-observation."
They are asked to contact the Ministry to confirm the observation or non-observation of the crescent moon at the following telephone numbers:
• 0537.76.11.45
• 0537.76.09.32
• 0537.76.05.49
• 0537.76.89.54
The fax number is also available at 0537.76.17.21
