Morocco Arrests Two ISIS-Affiliated Suspects Planning Terrorist Attacks

The two individuals arrested on January 26, 2022 in Benguérir and in the douar Sidi Kerroum under the rural commune of Oulad Hassoun El Hamri, in the Rehamna region, and who were preparing attacks, are affiliated with the terrorist organization Daesh. This is what the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) reveals.
According to sources close to the case, the BCIJ investigation confirmed the affiliation of the two accused to the Islamic State, as well as their involvement in the implementation of Daesh’s terrorist projects, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. Both aged 23, the two individuals had prepared a detailed plan to join the hotbeds of tension still under the control of Daesh in the Sahel and Afghanistan, it is specified.
They trained to manufacture explosives to commit terrorist acts on Moroccan territory, and to act on a larger scale via social networks. The two accused had in their sights the prison of Salé, where individuals convicted of terrorism cases are detained, as well as foreign tourists, in Marrakech and Agadir.
During the searches of the homes of the two alleged terrorists, mobile phones and extremist content documents from the Islamic State were seized. The preliminary investigation revealed that they had pledged allegiance to the Emir of Daesh and had begun the dissemination and distribution of extremist publications for the purpose of indoctrination and recruitment through computer systems.
