Morocco and Israel to Form Parliamentary Friendship Group, Strengthening Diplomatic Ties

Things are moving quite quickly between Morocco and the Hebrew state, since the warming of relations between the two countries last December. Following an initial videoconference meeting held by members of the Israeli and Moroccan parliaments, it was agreed to create a Morocco-Israel friendship group.

On the Moroccan side, it was the deputies Mohamed El Bakkouri and Abdelkarim El-Hamss, members of the House of Advisors, who spoke with the Israeli deputy Ram Ben-Barak, by videoconference, announces Jerusalem Post.

The proposal to create the Morocco-Israel parliamentary friendship group came from the Moroccan deputies. An idea approved by the Speaker of the Knesset, Yariv Levin. Ram Ben-Barak also invited his Moroccan counterparts to visit Israel, and assured them that they would be delighted to visit Morocco. During this virtual meeting, the Israeli deputy stressed that the two countries could also collaborate in the field of the fight against terrorism, culture, trade and the economy.

For his part, the advisor Mohamed El Bakkouri said he was "happy" with the holding of this meeting and the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries. "Morocco is a country of peace and tolerance," he said, before stressing that "King Mohammed VI ordered the teaching of Jewish culture in schools and eradicated any manifestation of racism against Jews in the country."
