Morocco and China Strengthen Health Partnerships, Expand Traditional Medicine Cooperation

The visit of the Minister of Health, Anas Doukkali, to China was an opportunity to sign a large number of agreements, particularly in the health sector.

In a press release relayed by the MAP, the Minister specified that Sino-Moroccan relations have moved to the implementation phase, through a strategic and comprehensive partnership.

Since 1975, China has been sending multidisciplinary medical teams, as part of the transfer of scientific expertise and the promotion of the hospital network in Morocco, especially in isolated regions.

Morocco intends to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the revolutionary new technologies, in particular telemedicine, which allows remote consultations. This experience will be transposed to Moroccan hospitals, creating a field of cooperation between Moroccan and Chinese doctors.

The Minister also mentioned the possibility of a tripartite collaboration that will see the participation of several African countries, where Morocco plays a pioneering role in the fields of medicine and pharmacy.

The success of the Sino-Moroccan collaboration in the energy sector is an example to be replicated in the health sector, the Minister said. He is counting on China’s expertise to inaugurate new hospitals in Morocco, through international grants.

Finally, the Minister addressed the place of traditional medicine in China, and would be interested in a transfer of knowledge to Morocco. Homeopathy and acupuncture would find their place in Morocco, especially since the country has a rich nature in medicinal plants.
