Morocco's Air Travel Resumption Date Uncertain, Decision Expected After June 10

The resumption of air traffic is not yet known in Morocco. It will only be announced the day after the deconfinement, scheduled for June 10, contrary to certain rumors that put forward the date of June 15.

Morocco will only be able to restore its domestic and international connections after June 10, reports Médias24. Well before this official opening decision of the airspaces, the airlines Iberia and Lufthansa have already created surprise by announcing the resumption of their regular flights to Marrakech or Agadir, between July and August.

According to the same media, several sources from the DGAC (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), RAM and finally the Ministry of Air Transport, argue that the resumption of air traffic is the sole responsibility of the government. It "should speak out quickly to save part of the summer tourist season and satisfy the CNT which denounces a lack of visibility".

For the same sources, the recent publication of a NOTAM (message to air navigators or notice to airmen NDLR) having extended until June 15 the suspension of all air traffic, has no effect on the agenda for the resumption of domestic and international flights.

While in Spain, the resumption of air links and the opening of borders to foreigners was effective after deconfinement, the same scenario can be expected in Morocco, i.e. after the post-deconfinement period. Moreover, the advanced preparations of the ONDA to reopen its airports also confirm this scenario.
