Morocco Set to Reopen Air Travel as COVID-19 Situation Improves

The resumption of air traffic is imminent thanks to the positive development of the epidemiological situation in the kingdom. This is at least what a source from the Ministry of Air Transport affirms.

A meeting is taking place this Friday, June 19, between the Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Otmani, the Minister of Air Transport and the CNT operators. On the agenda: the resumption of air traffic. According to the confidences of this ministerial source to Medias24, the date of resumption of air traffic could be announced at the end of this meeting.

"While we must remain cautious, the government’s decision to resume air traffic, both domestic and international, will be recorded in the coming days," it confides. "Indeed, faced with the pressure of public and private operators (CNT, RAM...) who are losing money every day but also from their foreign counterparts, the decision to reopen Moroccan airspace is imminent," it indicates.

In a letter dated June 17, the French tour operating union urged the Minister of Tourism to inform "travel companies" "of the date of reopening of Moroccan airspace in order to be able to meet the very strong demand from clients who have expressed themselves in France for a stay in Morocco".

"Unless the health situation deteriorates abruptly, it will therefore be announced by El Otmani in the coming days, to come into effect no later than the end of the state of health emergency (July 10) but perhaps even before," the same source affirmed. As for domestic flights, it explains that they will only be able to resume when there are no longer two zones, one confined and the other deconfined, and when the 75 provinces of the kingdom turn green.

However, "air links for passengers will only resume with countries where the epidemiological situation is under control," it is specified.
