Morocco Aims for First-Ever Beach Soccer World Cup Qualification Under New Coach

Tuesday 12 April 2022, by Ginette

Barely appointed, the new coach of the Moroccan national beach soccer team already displays great ambitions. Senegalese Oumar Ngala Sylla said on Sunday that his goal is to take the national team very far in the world competition.

Succeed in qualifying Morocco for the first time for the next 2024 World Cup. This is one of the challenges that the new coach appointed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation FRMF intends to take up.

In an interview with La MAP in Dakar, Oumar Ngala Sylla said that to achieve this bet, it is essential to set up a local beach soccer championship in Morocco in order to detect and recruit new talents capable of revitalizing the group. "Players who will join the national team, in order to defend the colors of the country at the continental and possibly global level," he continued.

Before his appointment in Morocco, coach Sylla was at the head of the Senegalese beach soccer selection. "The decision was not easy to make. But after winning three consecutive CAN and playing a World Cup semi-final, I need a new challenge," he said.

The FRMF certainly expects from the new coach the same determination and the same commitment as with the Senegalese Lions. With them, Oumar Ngala Sylla was African champion in 2017, 2019 and 2021 at home. He qualified Senegal for the quarter-finals of the World Cup on two occasions. At the 2021 World Cup in Russia, Senegal reached the semi-finals. A record that counted in the choice made by the Federation.
