Morocco Aims to Boost Medical Tourism with Quality-Focused Strategy

The revival of medical tourism in Morocco must involve the implementation of a quality strategy in order to enhance the image of the Kingdom internationally. This is the conclusion of a policy paper published by the Moroccan Institute of Strategic Intelligence (IMIS).

The strategy should be based on Morocco’s reputation in the field of health, its strategic location, its political stability and the availability of hotel infrastructure and a competent air transport network, said the study conducted by Camélia Dinia and Jihad Jorio, two consultants in strategy and international influences, reported by MAP.

Medical tourism thus represents a concrete opportunity for Morocco due to the aging of the world population and the multiplication of quality therapeutic procedures at affordable prices. This is a source of direct revenue and contributes to the overall development of the national economy, the study estimates.

Entitled "Reviving medical tourism in Morocco: A neglected but profitable industry to seize", the analysis focused on the prospects for the evolution of this sector, which combines the medical sector and tourism, both of which have been affected by the health crisis.

Given the interests for Morocco to position itself in this rapidly growing market, which is expected to generate $207.9 billion by 2027, the authors of the study stressed the creation of a medical tourism office, the development of a regulatory framework, as well as the enhancement of digital technology, in order to improve the competitiveness of the Kingdom.
