Morocco Advances Plans for Marrakech-Agadir High-Speed Rail Line

The high-speed rail (HSR) project connecting Marrakech to Agadir is making great strides. Three stations are planned to be built in Marrakech, Chichaoua and Agadir along the route.
Responding to a question from Malika Akhachkhouch, deputy of the Progress and Socialism group on the realization of the high-speed rail (HSR) line connecting Marrakech to Agadir over 240 km, Abdessamad Kayouh specified that the National Railway Office (ONCF) is currently focused on the necessary technical, economic and environmental studies.
The planning studies should be completed this year, he said, adding that all these studies will make it possible to gather the necessary data to ensure the feasibility and sustainability of the project, while respecting safety and environmental protection standards.
The acquisition of priority land has been carried out, as well as land over 7 km in the urban perimeter of Marrakech and a 20 ha site in Agadir, Kayouh said. According to him, it is planned to build three stations in Marrakech, Chichaoua and Agadir along the route. The other stations will be defined according to the operating studies, he specified.
