Morocco: an activist arrested for criticizing the authorities

Moroccan activist Youssef El Hirech was arrested on Tuesday for an alleged offense of attacking a public official, attacking authority and disseminating private information without consent on social networks.
Youssef El Hirech was placed in detention at the Kenitra prison, reports Europa Press. The date of his trial has been set for April 4 at the court of first instance of the city. The activist faces a sentence of four years in prison and a fine of up to 20,000 dirhams (about 1,800 euros).
El Hirech is known for his critical publications towards the Moroccan authorities, particularly on corruption, human rights violations and the economic situation in the kingdom.
