Morocco Accelerates Repatriation of 32,000 Citizens Stranded Abroad Due to COVID-19

The repatriation operation for Moroccans stranded abroad will be accelerated. After Ceuta, Melilla and Algeria, Moroccans stranded in Spain will be repatriated to the country starting this Thursday.
After a long period of hesitation and reflection, the Moroccan government has finally decided to repatriate its citizens stranded around the world. Nearly 32,000 have remained far from their families for nearly three months, following the closure of airspaces due to the coronavirus.
Speaking before the parliamentarians, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, announced on Tuesday that Moroccan nationals residing in southern Spain, particularly in Algeciras, will be the first to be repatriated.
The rest of our compatriots stranded in Catalonia, the Basque Country and Madrid will follow, notes the head of Moroccan diplomacy.
After Spain, the other countries, namely Turkey, France, the Gulf countries and African countries, will subsequently be assured in strict compliance with health measures.
For Nasser Bourita, the preparations are going well for the return of Moroccans stranded in these countries, according to a well-defined schedule.
