Moroccan Customs Thwart Major Drug Smuggling Operation: Frenchman Caught with 34kg Hashish

Moroccan customs officers arrested a Frenchman on Sunday as he was about to cross the Sebta border with 34 kilos of hashish hidden in his car.
The Moroccan customs agents at the Bab Sebta crossing point, supported by members of the canine unit of the General Directorate of National Security, were conducting a routine check when they discovered this large quantity of hashish in the Volkswagen Passat car driven by this Frenchman towards Sebta. The defendant was made available to the competent prosecutor’s office, which opened an investigation to determine the ins and outs of this case.
Moroccan customs are fiercely fighting drug trafficking during this summer period. On Saturday, a 38-year-old man from Ceuta was also arrested at the Moroccan border with 138 kilos of hashish that he was transporting in an Audi car. During the past week, Moroccan customs also arrested a young Portuguese man with 18 kilos of hashish hidden in the wheels of his Hyundai car.
A few days ago, a woman from Ceuta was arrested on the Moroccan side of the border with about 5 kilos of cocaine hidden in the car she was driving towards Morocco. In addition, elements of the Royal Gendarmerie of the province of Tétouan seized 40 grams of cocaine and more than 300 bottles of contraband alcohol in Ouad Laou, a popular destination for summer visitors.
