Moroccans Call for Royal Intervention Amid Soaring Food Prices and Government Criticism
On the web, Moroccan Internet users are calling for the intervention of King Mohammed VI for an urgent reshuffle of the government of Aziz Akhannouch.
In Morocco, a social uprising against the government of Aziz Akhannouch is taking shape. On social networks, many Moroccan Internet users have called for a royal intervention so that the government be reshuffled urgently. They shared the hashtags "#نطالب_جلالة_الملك_بتعديل_حكومي_عاجل", "#لا_لغلاء_الاسعار_في_المغرب" and "#ثورة_الملك_والشعب_2023". They justify their call by the dizzying rise in food prices (increases mainly affecting vegetables (+3.3%) and fruits (+2.6%)) and fuel.
They also recalled the interventions of Bank Al-Maghrib governor Abdellatif Jouahri and High Commissioner for Planning Ahmed Lahlimi. These two senior officials have criticized Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch for his inertia in the face of the current situation.
