Moroccan Youth Team Advances to World Lego Robotics Competition in Detroit

The Next Kids team from Tangier won the fifth edition of the national "First Lego League" robotics competition, organized by the "Loop For Science & Technology" association. With this title, the young talents from Tangier will go on to represent Morocco at the "World Festival" of this league, scheduled from April 29 to May 2 in the American city of Detroit.

This competition, which took place on the campus of the Casablanca Central School, allowed children aged 9 to 16 to improve their scientific skills in a playful way. Twenty teams, composed of 2 to 10 students, participated in the final phase, after taking part in the regional qualifications.

The Casablancans of Matrix, who took second place, earned the opportunity to defend the national colors at the Greece Open from May 13 to 16, while the GWA Synapse team from Bouskoura, third in the tournament, will be present in Rio de Janeiro from June 26 to 28, according to Hespress.

As for the 4th, 5th and 6th places in the event, occupied respectively by Space-X (Tetouan), Inteventor Team and Techmakers (Rabat), they have booked their tickets for the Arab Robotics Championship, which will take place from March 27 to 29 in Egypt.

Laila Berchane is the president of Loop, the association that has been organizing this competition for several years. She stated that "this fifth edition is for LOOP, a new opportunity to concretize its commitment to young people in Morocco, by offering them the possibility to express their scientific skills in a playful and innovative way, and to further arouse interest in robotics and technology for the young public".

This association sets itself the objectives of promoting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) among potential targets, such as children and young people from underprivileged backgrounds.
