Moroccan World Cup Stars Struggle to Shine in European Clubs

Several Moroccan internationals such as Azzeddine Ounahi, Nayef Aguerd, Noussair Mazraoui, Hakim Ziyech, or Sofyan Amrabat, are invisible in their clubs. Unwanted or victims of recurring injuries, these Atlas Lions lack consistency, which could jeopardize Morocco’s chances of meeting the next challenges.
After an exceptional run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they reached the semi-finals, these Moroccan players had aroused the interest of major European clubs. We expected these Atlas Lions to thrive in their new clubs and reveal themselves even more to the world. Unfortunately, they have disappointed with their performances in their respective clubs, reports SNRT News.
While Hakim Ziyech (Galatasaray) and Noussair Mazraoui (Bayern Munich) have been absent from the pitches for a long period of time due to recurring injuries, Azzedine Ounahi (OM), Sofyan Amrabat (Manchester United) and Nayef Aguerd (West Ham) are struggling to impose themselves in their clubs, sometimes facing criticism from supporters. Since joining the Red Devils, Amrabat has been a shadow of his former self. Very rarely a starter in 23 matches in all competitions, his market value has dropped from 28 to 22 million euros.
For his part, Ziyech is chaining injuries and lacks consistency at Galatasaray. The Turkish club’s management is considering parting ways with him. The Atlas Lion has scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists in 18 matches in all competitions. As for Nayef Aguerd, who was nevertheless applauded by the supporters on his arrival at West Ham, he is now under fire for his drop in form and lack of speed. The London club plans to put him on the transfer market.
Injured in the left hamstring, Mazraoui has hardly played this season. With his 23 appearances in all competitions, he finds himself in a delicate situation at Bayern Munich. This is also the case for Azzeddine Ounahi who has not lived up to expectations at OM with his inconsistent performances. In 30 matches, he has scored only 2 goals and provided one assist. A disappointment for the French club’s management who are ready to sell him to the highest bidder. Looking closely, the drop in form of these players in their clubs is likely to impact their performance with the national team.
