Morocco's Key Players Race to Recover as AFCON Approaches

The doctor of the Moroccan national team, Christophe Baudot, provided information on the health status of the players who flew out on Sunday for Côte d’Ivoire to take part in the final phase of the Africa Cup of Nations (January 13 - February 11).

According to the doctor, apart from certain players like Romain Saiss, Hakim Ziyech, and Noussair Mazraoui who are suffering from various injuries, the rest of the team is in good shape. Ziyech, in the rehabilitation phase, could be fully recovered from his injury before the start of the competition, the doctor specified in an interview with the website of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

The captain of the Atlas Lions, Romain Saiss, who has been suffering from an ankle sprain since December 20, continues to follow the necessary treatment. He could resume training next week and be ready for the first match against Tanzania on January 17, said Christophe Baudot, who also provided details on Noussair Mazraoui’s injury.

Unlike Ziyech and Saiss who have already joined the training camp of the Atlas Lions, the Moroccan defender, suffering from a muscle pain in the leg, remained at Bayern Munich. He should join the Moroccan team by January 10 to be taken care of by the medical staff of the Moroccan team, the doctor assures. In any case, Mazraoui will not be able to play the first or second match, but will probably be ready for the third match and the rest of the tournament.

Placed in Group F, Morocco will play their first match against Tanzania on Wednesday, January 17 at 6 pm at the Laurent Pokou stadium in the city of San Pedro. They will face the team of the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, January 21 at 3 pm at the same stadium. The Atlas Lions will play their last group match against Zambia on Wednesday, January 24, at the Laurent Pokou stadium.
