Moroccan Woman Survives 141 Days in Hospital with COVID-19, Loses Lung

Fatima Bridle is a coronavirus survivor. After spending 141 days in the general hospital in Southampton, including 105 days on respiratory assistance, this 35-year-old Moroccan woman is returning home, cured, but with only one lung now.
Fatima Bridle started feeling unwell as she was leaving Mohammedia, her hometown, for the United Kingdom. She was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), where she remained connected to a ventilator.
Despite the antibiotics the doctors were injecting her with to try to stabilize her, her condition worsened to the point that she went into a coma that lasted 40 days. Subsequently, it was discovered that she was suffering from an infection that had affected all her organs.
After five months of treatment, Fatima survived and returned home. Grateful, she thanks all the healthcare professionals for their efforts and all the attention she received during this long period of her illness. "I can’t believe I came out victorious from this ordeal. I feel like I have a new life. The NHS (National Health Service) saved my life. Everyone deserves a medal," she said.
Fatima is gradually recovering from this terrible pandemic. But she is left with a lifelong consequence. She now has only one lung.
