Moroccan Woman Fined $500 for Smuggling Endangered Tortoises at Swiss Airport

A Moroccan woman was arrested at Basel-Mulhouse airport, the Federal Customs Administration (AFD) said on Friday. She was about to board with two Greek tortoises, also known as Moorish tortoises.
This discovery at the EuroAirport customs dates back to mid-August, reports tdg.ch.. The accused wanted to join Switzerland with the endangered species arranged in a cardboard box. She did not have any written authorization for this type of import.
According to the Federal Customs Administration, the turtles were seized on the orders of the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office. The Moroccan national had to pay a fine of 500 francs.
