Moroccan Woman Dies After Illegal Abortion, Doctor and Partner Face Charges

Saturday 17 October 2020, by Ginette

Two people were brought before the public prosecutor’s office at the Rabat Court of Appeal to answer for the death of a young woman who succumbed to an abortion. They are the gynecologist who performed the procedure and the victim’s companion.

The clinic in question is located in Salé-El Jadida. The daily Al Akhbar reports that the judicial police under the regional directorate of the national security of Salé-Al Jadida is currently conducting a preliminary investigation to determine the circumstances and reasons for which this young woman lost her life in this clinic.

The two defendants will be prosecuted at large, even though the charges against them are quite serious. In Morocco, abortion is severely punished. And in the current case, there was death, debauchery and complicity. Before the public prosecutor’s office, the gynecologist stated that the 20-year-old young woman had been brought to her clinic, in poor condition, suffering from hemorrhage. Examinations were underway to have more details on the origin of this hemorrhage, when she passed away, the newspaper reports.

A confrontation will take place in the coming days between the defendants, but also the victim’s sister, the same source specifies.
