Moroccan Victim of Racist Attack in Spain Laid to Rest in Béni Mellal

Younes Bilal, the young Moroccan victim of a racist crime in Mazarrón (Murcia), was buried on Sunday in Morocco.
The coffin containing the body of Younes Bilal arrived in Béni Mellal in the afternoon on Sunday, after being transferred from Spain via the port of Nador. The repatriation of the body, as well as the funeral of the 39-year-old man, were fully taken care of by the Moroccan government.

The burial, which was broadcast live by local media on social networks, took place in the presence of Driss el Yazami, the president of the Advisory Council of Moroccans Abroad, and Sabah Yacoubi, the president of the Association of Moroccan Immigrant Workers in Murcia (ATIM). The association supported the widow, Andrea, by paying the family’s lawyer fees, as well as the travel expenses from Spain to Morocco, and from Casablanca to Béni Mellal. After the funeral, Andrea will remain in Béni Mellal with her mother-in-law with whom she has a good relationship, the same source said.

Younes Bilal died on Sunday, June 13 in Mazarrón (Murcia) after receiving three bullets from a former soldier who was making racist remarks towards him and his friends. His death has caused emotion and solidarity in Murcia and Morocco.
