Moroccan University Sees 30% Surge in Research Citations, Study Finds

The Moulay Ismail University (UMI) of Meknes has been distinguished by its indexed production, in particular the number of citations in scientific articles.
The study by the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST), carried out as part of the project "Improving the visibility of Moroccan universities by resolving the problem of institutional identification in indexed publications", reveals that UMI recorded 2,847 publications in February 2020 compared to 2,183 in May 2019; an increase of 30%. As for the number of citations of the university in indexed publications, it increased from 15,966 in May 2019 to 23,580 in February 2020, an increase of 48%.
This result is the fruit of a strategy to encourage scientific research at the UMI level and to motivate its research professors, the university said in a statement. This strategy, adopted since 2015, has been based on several concrete actions, including the regular evaluation of research structures, the implementation of university calls for projects and the granting of an allowance to the benefit of teachers and their research structures.
The main objective of the CNRST study is to limit the loss of visibility of Moroccan scientific publications, to restore to each university its scientific heritage, to allow the improvement of the ranking of Moroccan universities and, consequently, that of the kingdom in international ranking systems (Rankings).
