Moroccan University Dean Fired Amid "Sex for Grades" Scandal

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, has just dismissed the Dean of the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences in Settat. The decision follows the indictment of the professors involved in the so-called " Sex for good grades " case.

The Dean of the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences in Settat, where the "Sex for good grades" case broke out, was dismissed on Tuesday by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, reports the daily Assabah, specifying that this decision was made on the basis of a report from the general inspection of the Ministry of Higher Education.

This sextortion case revealed numerous dysfunctions and bad practices within the faculty. According to the general inspection report, cases of grade falsification, poor management of master’s degree theses, and poor administrative and pedagogical governance by the dean of the faculty, were noted. The report states a total lack of control and oversight by the dean over the actions of the teachers.

The report also mentions an unprecedented situation. A professor was solely responsible for supervising a hundred students in undergraduate and master’s programs, "which allows him to exert blackmail by demanding monetary counterparts and sexual favors from female students" and which also made it impossible to defend the theses.
