Morocco University Officials’ Sentences Reduced in Sex-for-Grades Scandal

The two officials of Hassan 1st University, accused in the "sex for good grades" case, obtained last Thursday a reduction of their sentences by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Settat.
Sentenced in the first instance to 18 months’ imprisonment in the "sex for good grades" case, Mr. Kh, head of the Public Law section at the Faculty of Legal Sciences of Hassan 1st University, will only serve 12 months. His colleague A. M. from the same faculty, sentenced to one year in prison, will now serve 8 months, according to the decision of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Settat.
Regarding Mr. B., coordinator of the Master’s in Public Finance, and KH.S., professor of Economics at the same university, their verdict in the first instance, namely the acquittal for prescription of the public action for the first and the outright acquittal for the second, was confirmed.
This "sex for good grades" case has shaken Hassan 1st University, which until then had enjoyed a good reputation. In total, 5 teachers were prosecuted in this case and 4 were brought before the court of first instance of Settat. The fifth accused, Mr. M., was sentenced to 2 years’ imprisonment by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Settat.
