Moroccan Judge Arrested in Casablanca Court Corruption Scandal

In Casablanca, the case of the judges flagged as part of an investigation into the alleged involvement of magistrates in an attempt to interfere in an ongoing legal case, has more secrets to reveal. A judge who held the position of president of a chamber at the court of appeal has been indicted for corruption.
A fourth judge is involved in this case that erupted following the dissemination on social media of an audio recording attributed to magistrates discussing a legal case presented to the attention of a judicial body in which a woman accused of pimping is being prosecuted while in custody. He was arrested and then placed in pre-trial detention at the Al Arjat prison in Salé.
It is the intermediary between the convicted woman, sentenced to eight months in prison, and the suspect, who is behind the arrest of this judge who held the position of president of a chamber at the Casablanca Court of Appeal. He is said to have intervened, along with the lawyer of the incriminated lady, with the judge so that the detainee would be acquitted on appeal, reports the daily Assabah. He is said to have received 30,000 dirhams from her. The lawyer is said to have received 10,000 dirhams.
On Wednesday, the judge was apprehended and then incarcerated in the Al Arjat prison in Salé. Before him, a magistrate was detained in the Oukacha prison on serious charges and two others are being prosecuted on provisional release as part of this case.
