Moroccan Teen Sentenced to 10 Years for Killing Younger Brother in Jealousy-Fueled Attack

A 17-year-old teenager on November 28 last killed his brother, 7 years his junior, out of pure jealousy. While they were both in an isolated place, the older brother seized a stone and struck several blows to his brother, who was struggling and, according to Aujourd’hui le Maroc, was crying for help. But it was to no avail. The blows continued.

But the child would not have died on the spot. According to ALM, the murderer threw his brother to the bottom of a three-meter hole and that is where he died after agony. The older brother is in all likelihood remained on the spot since the gendarmes who were dispatched there found him barefoot in the middle of the crowd and, when asked what he was doing there, the latter would have confessed everything.

The teenager did not seem to realize the potential consequences of his actions, according to the same source who describes the scene in court: "We are in the criminal chamber near the Court of Appeal of El Jadida. At the bar, a seventeen-year-old boy is being prosecuted under the provisions of Article 393 which stipulates that ’murder committed with premeditation or ambush is qualified as murder and punishable by the death penalty.’ Hardly has the President of the Court asked him the first question that he bursts into tears. He explains to the Court that he still cannot believe that he killed his brother. He regrets having come to this and having caused immense sadness to his parents."

He was sentenced to 10 years of criminal confinement.
