Moroccan Teen Arrested in Madrid for Alleged Arson Attack on Homeless Compatriots

A 19-year-old Moroccan with a long criminal record was arrested by the Spanish police after assaulting and burning three of his Moroccan homeless compatriots who were sleeping in a bar that had been closed for a few months in the Casino de la Reina park in Madrid.
One of the three homeless people, a 44-year-old Moroccan, suffered serious burns to his legs and a contusion. He was taken by ambulance to the Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital in Madrid to receive appropriate care. The other two are safe and sound, reports El Mundo.

According to the initial results of the investigation, the aggressor would have accused his Moroccan homeless compatriots of having stolen his mobile phone. Not having found it, he decided to set fire to the place where the homeless people were spending the night. After committing his crime, he fled, leaving the latter to their fate. Fortunately, the homeless people woke up with a start and began to call for help in the midst of the flames.

The residents alerted the nearest police station, which quickly dispatched officers to the scene. They were able to save some of the injured before the arrival of the firefighters who brought the fire under control. After an investigation and thanks to the testimonies of the victims, the alleged perpetrator of the fire was arrested. He is a 19-year-old Moroccan, well known to the police for having been arrested eight times already, five times in October for theft. Accused of a presumed crime of injury and a crime of arson, he was brought before a judge on Saturday who ordered his detention.
