Moroccan Teacher Sentenced for Bigamy After Marrying Second Husband

The case had caused a scandal. A woman had married a second man, taking advantage of the fact that her first husband was in prison, by falsifying documents. She has just been sentenced to two years in prison. But she was also ordered to pay damages to her first husband.

The famous bigamous teacher, aged 30, was sentenced by the Court of First Instance in the city of Meknès, on Monday, July 1, 2019, to serve a two-year prison sentence and to pay the sum of 100,000 dirhams in damages to her first husband, according to information disseminated by the Alyaoum24 website.

When he got out of prison in August 2018, the first husband, a businessman from the Sidi Kacem area, discovered that his wife had falsified papers in order to remarry. He filed a complaint. Indeed, she had married a Commander of the Royal Armed Forces who, for his part, claimed to be completely unaware of her first marriage; he completely disowned it.

The woman was convicted, among other things, of document forgery, adultery and bigamy, still according to the same source, which indicates that the Moroccan Network for the Defense of Human Rights had been involved. This structure, in particular, defends men who are victims of domestic violence from their wives.

Its President, Fouad Hamzi, was questioned by the media on this subject. He stated that the charges of fraud had not been retained against the polyandrous teacher, who could therefore have risked a more severe sentence.
