Moroccan-Spanish Couple's Remains Found in Alicante; Drug Trafficking Link Suspected

The remains of the bodies of Kamal Mohamed, a Moroccan from Melilla, and Elisabeth Ramos, a Spaniard from Aspe (Alicante), were found last Sunday, February 6, in Elche (Alicante). The police suspect a settling of scores between drug trafficking networks.

Kamal and Elisabeth met in 2017 at the Alicante prison of Fontcalent. He was in pre-trial detention as a suspected member of a hashish trafficking network from Morocco, led by Abdellah El Haj Sadek, better known as Messi. She was serving a sentence of one and a half years for drug trafficking. After their release from prison, Kamal, 32, and Elisabeth, 28, met again and started a romantic relationship until their disappearance on June 8, 2019, reports El Pais.

Human remains (a skull and a femur) found last Sunday, February 6, by a passer-by in the wild area of Barranco del Grifo, on the outskirts of Elche, only ten kilometers from where the couple lived, were analyzed by forensic medicine. One of the bodies would be that of Kamal. It remains to be confirmed whether the other bones belong to Elisabeth, which would be very likely, especially since objects belonging to her were found at the scene.

The police have opened a new investigation after this macabre discovery to determine the causes of death and the perpetrators of the double murder. Last April, a few months before the couple’s disappearance, a shootout between drug traffickers had been recorded in El Campello (Alicante). One group was trying to steal a large quantity of Moroccan hashish that had just been unloaded by another group. Alerted, the Civil Guard had intervened and arrested eight people.

According to police sources, they were members of the Los Negros gang, led by a Moroccan, a close collaborator of Kamal, based in Murcia, who wanted to seize the merchandise of certain French drug traffickers. According to the same sources, Kamal "was the intermediary between the two networks and was in charge of transporting the drugs from Morocco where he managed to import 2,000 kilos of hashish for the French but, he revealed everything to Los Negros". The police suspect that a member of one of the two groups discovered Kamal’s double game and wanted to make him pay dearly for it.
