Moroccan Soldier Drowns While Pursuing Migrant Boat Near Tangier

A 22-year-old soldier drowned on Wednesday on the coast of Jebila, near the city of the Strait, Tangier. He reportedly spotted a boat of illegal immigrants and tried to catch up to it.

EFE explains: "A Moroccan soldier drowned on Wednesday while trying to rescue a group of immigrants on the coast of Jebila, near the city of Tangier. His body has not yet been found."

The soldier was part of the Jebila coastal observation team and wanted to intercept illegal immigrants who were attempting to cross over to Spain in a boat. They are said to be sub-Saharan immigrants.

The Moroccan soldier is said to have been swept away by the waves and the search is still ongoing by the Moroccan Navy to try to recover his remains. This happened on Wednesday and the EFE information is from Friday. The chances of survival are indeed slim, if not non-existent.
