Moroccan Singer Dounia Batma’s Prison Sentence Increased on Appeal

Dounia Batma has just been sentenced to one year in prison. Sentenced to 8 months in prison at first instance, her sentence was increased by the Marrakech Court of Appeal.
Ibtissam Batma, Dounia’s sister, and Sophia Choukri had their sentences pronounced at first instance confirmed. They were sentenced respectively to one year in prison and ten months in prison. As for the stylist Aïcha Ayach, who was sentenced to 18 months in prison, her sentence was reduced to six months.
They are accused of "participating in fraudulent access to the computer data system", "deliberate participation through the operation of this system", "dissemination of images and statements of others without consent". They are also being prosecuted for "dissemination of unfounded facts with the aim of harming the private life of individuals and defamation", as well as for "participation and blackmail".
