Moroccan Singer Dounia Batma Appeals 12-Month Prison Sentence to Supreme Court

Dounia Batma is challenging the decision of the Marrakech Court of Appeal, which increased her sentence from 8 to 12 months in prison. In a last resort, the singer, who will celebrate her thirtieth birthday on April 1st, has decided to seize the Court of Cassation.
According to sources reported by Akhbarona, the Moroccan star, placed under judicial supervision since her conviction at first instance, could continue to benefit from provisional release, pending the ruling of the Court of Cassation.
The media adds that an appeal would have been filed and registered on Wednesday by the singer’s defense at the registry of the Court of Cassation. The decision followed the verdict of the Marrakech Court of Appeal, made public on the same day.
Prosecuted for blackmail and defamation in the Hamza mon bb case, Dounia was sentenced on appeal to 12 months in prison and a fine of 10,000 dirhams.
