Moroccan Security Forces Thwart Terror Plot, Arrest 4 in Taza Region

A new operation carried out this Wednesday morning by the elements of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) made it possible to dismantle a terrorist cell active in the Taza region.
Four people were arrested during this operation, including an individual, their apparent leader, who had already had to deal with justice in the past, indicates the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) in a press release, according to which he had been convicted in 2015 under the anti-terrorism law.
Aged 33 to 38, they intended to carry out terrorist attacks in the country by targeting "sensitive establishments in the Kingdom", specifies the DGSN which does not however detail the exact targets of these individuals.
Their leader, still according to the authorities, tried to exploit his combat experience acquired on the Syrian-Iraqi scene to plan attacks in the country. In addition, one of the members of this cell "contributed to the financing of the operation allowing certain Moroccan fighters to join this hotbed," it is further indicated.
All the suspects were placed in custody as part of this investigation "conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office".
Note that the last anti-terrorist operation of the BCIJ dates back to last month when 6 people were arrested in several cities of the kingdom. They were suspected of maintaining close ties with elements active within the "Daesh" organization in Libya.
