Moroccan Real Estate Tycoon Faces Trial for Alleged Land Fraud Scheme

The Court of Appeal of Tétouan has postponed to March 13 the case of the billionaire from the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region, accused of falsifying land ownership documents for the purpose of spoliation.
The court decided to grant a delay to the accused to better prepare his defense before rendering its verdict. The billionaire denies the facts. However, in their complaint filed with the competent authorities against him, the 29 victims claim that the accused has tried to appropriate their land by falsifying the property documents, indicate sources, adding that the victims have refused any agreement with the defense which had opposed to present the topographic survey of the area concerned before the court.
The court had postponed the previous hearings due to the non-presentation of this document. If the defense provides this evidence at the next March hearing, the substantive debates can begin. The businessman is accused of having modified the dimensions of a plot, reducing its area from 3,000 square meters to 30 hectares, while the boundaries have remained unchanged.
New complaints have been filed against the billionaire for similar cases in the M’diq region. The businessman had previously been sentenced by the Tétouan Court of Appeal to four years in prison and the payment of a 100,000 dirham compensation.
