Urban Planning Scandal Rocks Meknes: Interior Ministry Launches Probe into Royal Residence Violations

The Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, has just dispatched a commission from the territorial administration to control the urban planning sector in Meknes, after several scandals.

Businesses built near the historic walls of the city, a wedding hall erected without authorization near the royal residence, the Merjane municipal market altered... A commission from the territorial administration dispatched by the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, is investigating these irregularities. The mission began at the Meknes prefecture offices. The commission first met with the local authorities responsible for urban planning files and is currently examining an initial set of official documents. The inspectors then headed to the commune to question the president of the communal council, Abbas El Maghari, his vice-presidents, as well as the officials in charge of urban planning and economic affairs. The central administration expresses strong concern over the violations observed around the royal residence, reveals Al Akhbar.

In parallel, the judges of the Regional Council of the Higher Council of Accounts should receive the report of the General Inspectorate. After receiving it, they will initiate a more in-depth audit to examine the activities of the Association of Social Works of Municipal Employees, in particular the use of the annual subsidies received from the Meknes municipality and the income generated by the rental of the banquet hall. These activities, however, do not fall within the association’s mission. A political earthquake is expected in the Ismaili capital.
