Appeal Trial Postponed in Star-Studded Murder Case: ’Turbo’ and Five Others Face Brutal Charges

A new twist in the case of the murder of the singer Rym Fikri’s husband. The appeal trial of Reda Abakrim, alias "Turbo", considered the main suspect, was postponed this Thursday by the Casablanca Court of Appeal. The hearing is now set for October 7th, a decision motivated by the absence of the victim’s widow, who must be summoned again to testify as a civil party.
In this case with multiple ramifications, Reda Abakrim is not the only one accused. Five other people, identified as (Said.A), (Mohamed.J), (Zakaria.D), (Abbas.M) and (Hassan.M), are being prosecuted alongside him. The charges against them are extremely serious: kidnapping and sequestration, use of a vehicle to commit a crime, acts of physical torture and, finally, premeditated murder and ambush.
The profile of Reda Abakrim, a Franco-Moroccan citizen, is particularly noteworthy. His name is already known to the French justice system, which sentenced him in absentia in 2021 to 21 years in prison. He was then tried for the 2007 murder of Brahim Hajaji, as part of a settling of scores related to a cannabis trafficking case. The Moroccan judicial file also notes that he has already been acquitted at first instance in a similar case.
The prosecution of Reda Abakrim in Morocco in the case of Rym Fikri’s husband was initiated by the investigating judge. The decision to indict him for complicity in kidnapping, sequestration and premeditated murder is based on several key elements. These include the testimony of a certain Bilal J. collected by the French justice system, the flight of the accused to Morocco after the victim’s disappearance, and his use of a false identity under the name "Karim Ramadan Cherki".
The hearing on Thursday, which took place in courtroom 8, was marked by several procedural facts. In addition to the postponement, it was noted that the accused had not been extracted from the Oukacha prison to appear. A new lawyer has also come forward to defend Reda Abakrim.
