Scandal Erupts at Elite Moroccan School: Mass Expulsions, Fee Hikes, and Allegations of Misconduct Rock Al Akhawayn
A major conflict has erupted at the Al Akhawayn School in Ifrane, where the administration has decided to exclude 16 children for the 2025/2026 school year. According to the families, this measure punishes their opposition to a sudden and massive increase in tuition fees.
The parents consider this increase, up to 200%, unjustified and denounce a unilateral decision by the director taken in violation of the school’s statutes. They claim that the expulsion notices have specifically targeted the children of members of their association, including those whose fees had been fully paid.
The criticisms are directly aimed at the director. The parents contest the legality of his appointment due to his foreign nationality (Franco-American), question his competence by referring to a previous dismissal in the United States, and accuse him of a conflict of interest related to the simultaneous management of another establishment in California.
On the pedagogical level, the parents’ association reports a deterioration of the level. It points to the absence of a clear program, which would lead some teachers to use AI like ChatGPT. The situation would be aggravated by the grouping of students of different levels and by the non-recognition of the school’s diploma by other establishments.
Moral accusations are also made against teachers recruited by the director. The association cites the case of a teacher dismissed for "sexual" conversations with young students, and accuses the administration of supporting another teacher whose behavior is considered inappropriate.
Faced with this situation, the families say they are at an impasse, unable to transfer their children who do not master either Arabic or French. They indicate that they have alerted numerous official bodies, including several ministries, but claim that their correspondence has remained unanswered.
