Moroccan Real Estate Scam: Developer Vanishes with $1 Million, Leaving Dozens Defrauded in El Jadida

Dozens of residents of El Jadida, including prominent figures, were deceived by a dishonest real estate developer. The latter collected nearly 10 million dirhams by selling non-existent plots of land in a sought-after neighborhood of the city.
The scam was revealed when the land, used as collateral for a loan, was seized by the courts to repay the developer’s debts. The victims, who had paid down payments of up to 500,000 dirhams, are left with nothing and denounce a fraud.
The developer, who had attracted his clients with official contracts, has disappeared, leaving behind many ruined people. The complaints filed with the justice system have shown that some plots of land had even been sold several times.
Faced with this scandal, the prosecutor has asked the police to investigate and has banned the developer from leaving the country. But the victims, who fear he may escape, demand that justice be done and that their money be returned.
