Real Estate Fraud Scheme Uncovered in El Jadida, Morocco: Multiple Buyers Defrauded
The El Jadida police arrested an individual accused of defrauding several potential real estate buyers who had paid him substantial sums of money in exchange for reserving land lots. A real estate scam similar to that of Bab Darna.
The facts date back to 2017. The manager of the real estate company had land lots marketed in a subdivision signed contracts for the reservation of these lots in the office of a well-known notary in El Jadida with potential buyers who had paid him substantial sums of money, reports Assabah. Some clients signed these contracts over the past three years. Years have passed without them taking possession of their real estate properties.
Seeking to understand the real reasons for the delay in the delivery of the land lots, the clients discovered that the developer was not the owner of the land. They then filed a complaint against the real estate developer. The latter was summoned last week by the provincial brigade of the judicial police. He initially denied the facts he was accused of. Confronted with his victims, he finally confessed everything. Pending the finalization of the investigation, he was placed in custody.
