Real Estate Scam in Morocco Defrauds Expats and Locals in Témara Housing Project

Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) as well as Moroccans residing in the kingdom have been victims of a real estate scam in Témara orchestrated by the "Nezha" Housing Association. They filed a complaint for fraud and breach of trust against the association.
Yet another real estate scam. While they have paid all their dues and were supposed to benefit from an apartment, more than 100 members of the "Nezha" Housing Association realize that they have been victims of a real estate scam. They discovered that the association’s office has improperly built two additional residences, sold commercial premises and bought land of several hectares in the prefecture of Skhirat and the commune of Ain Atik with their money without informing them, reports the daily Assabah.
The victims then filed a complaint with the public prosecutor’s office at the court of first instance in which they accuse the governing board of fraud and breach of trust. The latter "falsified the statutes by making amendments to the minutes of a pseudo-extraordinary general meeting. This is how the office changed the provisions of Article 18 which stipulate that in case of necessity it is possible to hold an extraordinary general meeting devoted exclusively to the issue of an urgent nature," denounce the victims, specifying that they were not summoned to these sessions which took place on August 26, 2020.
The plaintiffs also denounce the fact that the office has taken "serious" decisions by approving the moral and financial reports, as well as the resignation of its members while granting them a discharge of liability, in order to protect itself against any obligation or legal action. According to them, the president of the Association would have used fraud and blackmail in the financial management of the common property of the association.
