Moroccan Rapper Mounir Gnawi Gets 1-Year Sentence for Assault and Public Intoxication

More trouble for Mounir Gnawi. The rapper was sentenced to one year in prison by the Court of First Instance in Salé. He had been charged with multiple assaults, public drunkenness and insults to police officers in the performance of their duties.
Arrested on September 2nd, the rapper now knows his fate. His conviction to one year in prison has sparked a wave of reactions from Internet users on Facebook. According to the police who arrested him, he would have assaulted employees of the Moulay Abdallah hospital in Salé.
He had gone to the hospital accompanied by his sick sister. But he wanted to film the interior in order to denounce the consequences of the lack of doctors in hospitals in Morocco. But he was arrested by some employees, as well as by the police on site. He will be questioned for drunkenness, disturbance of public order, damage to public property and outrage and insult to civil servants.
In 2019, the rapper had been indicted and sentenced to one and a half years in prison for "outrage and insult to police officers in the performance of their duties" and the payment of a fine of 1000 DH. The rapper is known for his invectives against the security forces and his denunciations on social networks. A rather risky choice since it has often led him behind bars.
