Morocco Bus Crash Driver Sentenced to 4 Years for Deadly Accident That Killed 25

The court of first instance in Khouribga last Wednesday sentenced the bus driver responsible for a serious accident on national road No. 11, causing the death of 25 people and more than thirty injured, to 4 years in prison.
The tragedy had occurred on Wednesday, August 17 on national road No. 11, which connects the cities of Khouribga and Fqih Bensalah. The bus, which was coming from Casablanca and heading to Aït Aatab (Azilal province) via Béni Mellal, had overturned on a bend on this national road.
According to the final report, 25 people lost their lives in this accident and 37 people were transferred in serious condition to the Hassan II regional hospital in Khouribga. An investigation had been opened by the competent authorities to determine the circumstances of this tragedy.
According to the verdict, the driver who was driving the bus was sentenced to four years in prison with a fine of 2,200 dirhams. The driver’s assistant was sentenced to 4 months in prison with a suspended sentence, and was ordered to pay a fine of 700 dirhams.
