Kenitra Court Sentences Child Kidnapper to 15 Years in Prison

Prosecuted for kidnapping, detention and misappropriation of a minor, the kidnapper of the 5-year-old Fatima-Zahra was sentenced to fifteen years in prison. The sentence was handed down on Monday, October 17, 2022 by the criminal chamber of the Kénitra Court of Appeal.

In its indictment, the public prosecutor’s office requested that the defendant be sentenced to the maximum penalty due to the seriousness of the acts he is accused of. But the court opted for a sentence positively welcomed by the associations for the protection of children. "The decision of justice has come in symbiosis with our demands," said Najat Anwar, president of the association Touche pas à mon enfant.

"15 years in prison for the kidnapper of a minor is, in our opinion, a sufficient sentence to set an example and prevent any other person who might think of harming a child," she added. The man who has just been sentenced to fifteen years in prison is 37 years old. He is a repeat offender arrested in the past for theft, assault and battery with a weapon, public drunkenness and illegal immigration, reports Le360.

Fatima-Zahra was kidnapped on Thursday, September 22, 2022, while playing in the street with her cousins. The accused had taken them to buy candy, but only the two little girls returned home. Quickly, the local authorities, the police services and even the residents mobilized to find the little girl in 24 hours. She was found on board an urban bus.
