Moroccan Professor Faces Ban After Exposing University Master's Program Flaws

The functioning of masters in national universities has been criticized by a professor of Criminal Law at the FSJES in Meknes, part of the University of Moulay Ismail. This denunciation earned him a ban on lectures.

In a 100-minute video posted on October 13 on his Youtube channel, the professor revealed the flaws related to the functioning of masters, from their creation to the evaluation of students, reports Medias24. These criticisms are only the tip of the iceberg. The professor promises other revelations in the very near future.

In his video, the professor recalled that the creation of a master’s degree requires compliance with a number of criteria that are lacking in Moroccan universities. The master’s degree holder must present a "descriptive file", in which he details, among other things, the admission requirements, the number of mentions required for the candidate to be selected, the modules, the subjects and the teaching team.

For Abdelakbir Sossi El Alaoui, friendly relationships often take precedence over skills. According to him, the teaching team composed by the master’s degree holder is often made up of "professor-friends". This practice is "inconceivable and unfair to other deserving professors who struggle to complete their mandatory hours, while others manage to reach the ceiling of 20 additional hours," he hammered.

The same phenomenon is observed when validating the descriptive file presented to the head of the department and the dean, the last step before the evaluation of the file by the supervisory ministry. According to Abdelakbir Sossi El Alaoui, the nature of the relationship between the professor, holder of the Master’s degree and the dean can work in his favor or, on the contrary, disadvantage him. In this regard, he proposes that the descriptive file be published online to facilitate the task for students interested in this Master’s degree. "To discover a master’s degree, students have to ask their elders to give them a briefing in order to know the subjects, the selection criteria, the form of the competition, etc. Yet they could know everything with a click," he specified.

The other denunciation of the law professor is the form of the entrance exam for the Master’s degree. He called on the ministry to remove the mentions among the selection criteria and to organize a national competition like the baccalaureate. "The master’s degree is to be taken as seriously as the baccalaureate. It is inconceivable that the people who ask the exam questions are the ones who correct them," he added.

A few hours after the publication of his video, the person concerned was sanctioned by the scientific commission of the Private Law department of the University of Moulay Ismail. Professor Abdelakbir Sossi El Alaoui contests this sanction and promises to take legal action at the appropriate time.
