Morocco’s PJD Revitalizes Strategy: Diaspora Takes Center Stage in Political Resurgence

The Party of Justice and Development (PJD) wants to place Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) at the heart of its action. This decision comes after the 8th National Congress of the party, which is trying to strengthen its political and organizational momentum after the flop of the last elections.
After a series of consultations with the party’s officials abroad, Abdelilah Benkirane held an expanded meeting on June 20 with all the party members from the diaspora. On this occasion, the availability of the MREs to get more involved in the political and organizational dynamics of the PJD, as well as their significant contribution to the party’s journey and performance, were highlighted.
The MRE members of the PJD, for their part, expressed their gratitude to King Mohammed VI for his constant concern for the Moroccan diaspora. They also called on the government to accelerate the implementation of the Royal Directives aimed at improving the management of MRE affairs, in particular the adoption of specific texts for the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad and the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
In a statement, the PJD explains that its objective is to modernize the institutions dedicated to the MREs, in compliance with the principles of democracy, representativeness and efficiency, while moving away from quota logics. This is with a view to strengthening the involvement of Moroccans from the diaspora in national affairs and their contribution to the development of the country.
The PJD also stressed the need to recognize the constitutional rights of the MREs, in particular the right to vote and to be eligible, and welcomed the efforts of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, in charge of organizing the Marhaba Operation, which has set up several reception centers in Morocco and abroad to facilitate the return to Morocco of the MREs during the summer.
