Moroccan Port Sees 10% Surge in Diaspora Travelers as Summer Tourism Rebounds

The flow of MREs welcomed at the port of Tanger Med, as part of the Marhaba operation, increased this year by 10% compared to the 2019 edition. Until August 1st, about 530,436 passengers and 136,263 vehicles transited through this port.

Launched in June, Marhaba 2022 is progressing smoothly and is gradually entering its return phase. The summer saw the return of a greater number of tourists and MREs, after a difficult period due to the global health situation.

The majority of those who made the sea journey were welcomed at the port of Tangier. During the period, two peaks were recorded on the weekends of July 2-4 and July 30-August 1, corresponding to arrivals of 62,759 and 61,468 passengers respectively, according to a press release.

For the return phase, the port of Tanger Med has announced special arrangements to cope with the intensity of traffic. Travelers are invited to consult the traffic forecasts available on the website and mobile app, and plan their return to avoid significant waiting periods, particularly the high traffic period from August 25 to 30, 2022, in accordance with the communicated schedule.

Likewise, the port authority informs passengers that they will have to obtain, before going to the port, a return ticket issued by their shipping company which specifies a firm date and time of travel.
