Moroccan Police Inspector Arrested in Drug Trafficking Corruption Probe

Serving at the regional police station in El Marsa in Laâyoune, a police inspector was arrested on Wednesday by elements of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ). The inspector would be indicted in a corruption case.
The case dates back to June 12, when an individual was arrested 30 kilometers from Laâyoune by BNPJ elements. According to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), he would be involved in a case of drug possession and trafficking. Investigations carried out revealed suspicions of complicity of the police officer with the arrested individual.
According to the press release, the police inspector would cover up criminal activities in exchange for sums of money.
The same source notes that the police inspector was taken into custody at the disposal of the preliminary investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, in order to elucidate all the circumstances of these criminal acts.
